APRIL 2024 – Superintendents Report
Not too much to speak on this month as we have had a terrible run with the weather!
The greens are running slower than normal. I have raised the heights of the mower and I usually run a product called Primo that slows the growth and also quickens the pace, however I have not applied this product as a precaution moving into winter. In previous years our greens struggled due to shade and are under more stress at that time of year, so I am protecting the surface as best as possible.
We have also had a lot of rain and the roller has only been used twice in four weeks due to the rain so it is expected for the greens to be slower than normal. I will do my best to speed them up with the understanding of my reason for having the length a little higher than normal.
Whilst the rough mowers have been stationed in the shed for most of the month, we were able to get hands-on with some projects.
A big job achieved was all trees on the course have been snipped and sprayed at the bases with a great product that prevents weeds for up to six months. The red colour is just a dye and will fade away.
We are also continuing with our new tee signs, and by the end of this month, all of the front nine holes will be complete.
We have temporarily fixed the main storm drain on the 5th. As mentioned last month, new pipe work is needed in the future. The 15th drainage is still a big issue and we are currently waiting for a period of dry weather so we can run a camera down the pipe to isolate the area that can hopefully be repaired.
