THE TIME HAS COME...

The ladies certainly know how to organise a party and enjoy themselves! To celebrate their enjoyment and friendships with six ladies who are leaving the club, they organised a lovely luncheon at the club.

So - who is leaving and why?

One venerable lady member had more years of membership than all the others combined - who was this??

The luncheon was organised for six ladies retiring or moving on. Two (Maureen Connor and Kaisa Puolakka) couldn't make it, but Thelma Byrnes, Lyndel Forsyth, Pam Strand and Ann Ahlstrom joined in for the celebration.

Thelma, Pam and Ann are retiring from golf (but not life of course), while Lyndel has joined Horton Park with husband Paul. Maureen has moved to NSW with her family and Kaisa has moved to the more level course, Beerwah!

There comes a time when you need to change, and Thelma Bynes has decided to leave Nambour Golf Club after almost 37 years of continuous membership (apart from time off after an accident.)

But don't worry, Thelma has left her mark on Nambour. A scan of the honour boards in the club tells the story - eight ladies championships (7 in 14 years, the latest being only in 2008), three mixed championships,   seven ladies foursomes championships, and only (?) 6 holes in one!! She would still hold the course record here but for a young golfer called Karrie Webb who took it from her by only two shots!

"Jim only took up the game of golf at 63 years of age, after he became tired of listening to me talk about it. He reckoned he should have a go himself." After lessons from John Mellish, Jim was also a regular member to be seen trudging our course, often with Thelma.

Thelma bought a new, complete set from the Proshop only last year, and then retired?? The story is that Thelma has gifted her second set to her grand-daughter who is keen to take up the game, already having lessons from our Pro. But Thelma has kept the new set - maybe a come-back is possible?? So, it looks like the Byrnes genes will still be with us for a while!!

Good luck, good golf and good health to these six ladies!
