Pennant Update
The season ends for us - how did we fare?
Ahh - so near yet so far! Our A Grade team achieved so well during the season with only one loss out of the nine rounds. Unfortunatley, so did Mt Coolum and Caloundra. But .. in the event of a tie on points, then team match tallies will be used to determine the qualifiers. So now the final of the A Grade Pennant season comes down to the playoff next weekend (27 April) at Caloundra Golf Club between Caloundra and Mt Coolum. Congratulations to Mt Coolum, and their captain, our Nigel, for their great win 4.5 matches to 2.5 - a great effort to roll Caloundra on their home course.
A feature of our A Grade team was that the members played as a team! All members stayed to the end of each competition, following 'alive' matches around the course until their conclusion. Such team spirit augers well for player pride and confidence. Well done to our '08 team.
The service we received from Peregian Springs Club was very impressive. We received heavy discounts for buggies, a great hamburger lunch, again discounted, free range balls, unlimited use of the course (some used more of it than others!), and friendly service from their proshop. Thanks Peregian for your support!
Our B Grade team has finished their season so strongly with a 6/1 win at Horton Park against Tewantin Noosa weekend (20 April). A positive end to the season does our team spirit some good. Even though we had only three wins this season, the losses were close matches that could easily have gone the other way. So look out next season!
The Seniors have been playing really consistently, but every match has been really close. Again, we finished strongly by downing Tewantin Noosa 4/3 at Cooroy. So we have managed to win three of our eight matches for the season. This year we blooded some "young" oldies, so next season, with this experience under their belt, the masters team should be worth watching.
The Junior pennant team went down 4/1 in their final match of the season against Headland at Tewantin Noosa. Over three inches of rain didn't help much, making the course soggy and heavy, and playing the gun team from Headland certainly made this a difficult assignment. But coach Mal was proud of the way this Junior team performed and conducted themselves!
Ladies Pennant season is reaching its end too. Our Grade 2 team has finished first in the Northern district with 22 points, 4.5 points ahead of their nearest competitor Mt Coolum on 17.5. Now we await results from the southern district to see whom we play in the final. This will be played on a neutral course, to be advised.
Our Grade 3 team finished down the list, but were competitive until the very end.
