JULY GREENS REPORT

One heavy shower of rain and carts are off?? what plans are there to help alleviate this problem?

A few things are going on at the course in the next couple of weeks; the drainage line down the left hand side of 16 fairway, this will stop seepage through 16,15 fairways & will help take a lot of the water off these trouble spots.

Areas have been cleared behind greens 12 & 9 tees, this helps with air circulation & brings more light onto these areas. Work will begin on back of 6th tee, soil will be bought in, levelled off & artificial tee off surface laid, then to finish off Green Lees Park Couch surrounds planted.

This will make the shot into the green a real challenge.  Fairways have been bought into regulation for the new rating system, which is up to 20 metres wide on fairway landing areas.  By the time mid September comes there should be a definition between fairway & rough.

Lots of shady suspect trees are being removed e.g. Cocos palms, behind 2nd, beside 9th green & the right hand side of 5th fairway.  These palms are regarded as noxious weeds, are very messy & invasive.

The spray out areas on 2, 5, 7 12 & 13 greens are beginning to show couch regeneration.  These areas will be sprayed again at the end of August & by the end of September should be pure couch.

The course is in fairly good condition for this time of year; let’s hope for no late frosts.  Bring on spring!
