Nine Hole Formats

There are many who find they do not have enough time to commit to a full round of golf, or it's too hot to spend so long in the sun during the hottest part of the day - so here is one answer to these dilemmas. What is your match committee planning??

Match Committee is planning to introduce 9 hole competitions after 1.00 p.m. on a Monday and Friday. Planning is in early stages yet, but consideration is being given to:

  •      Chicken/prawn tray trophy for best score for each  group of eight players.
  • Overall trophy for best score on day.
  • Entry fees of $10 members, $15 social players
  • Possible concessional membership for non-members to play only on the Monday and Friday 9 hole competitions.
  • Handicapping isues for 9 holes for members and non-members.
  • Anticipated start date is February.

Keep an eye out for further developments with this new playing option as we get closer to the date.

Golf Australia has encouraged clubs to incorporate 9-hole competitions into regular 18 hole competitions. Their new promotional program is to be launched to clubs, based around the theme 9-hole golf: Your time. Your choice. This is designed to encourage greater participation at all levels.

Nick Green, Director from GA says, “The shorter game format is designed to complement rather than replace the traditional 18-hole format, and will provide both new players and existing club members with far greater choice.”

This 9-hole format of play has been identified as one logical strategy to overcome the common barrier of lack of time faced by many potential members, and one which prevents existing club members from playing more often. This format should also appeal to players with physical limitations, those who may find the full 18-hole format to demanding.

Short-game formats can now be processed via Golf Link after scores have been converted to reflect an 18 hole result. All this is explained in the GA sponsored web site www.9hole.com.au
